Osnivanje DVD-a Kotoriba

Fire protection in the pre-fire era
In the second half of the 19th century, only a small number of houses in Kotoriba were built, and the rest were made of wood and mud and covered with straw or reeds. Smoke rose directly from the stove into the attic because the houses did not have chimneys, which often led to fires. The biggest fire occurred in 1878, which turned 90% of households in Kotoriba to dust and ashes. To reduce the number of fires, the authorities issued an order that every host must have these fire extinguishing equipment: -a barrel must be filled with water near the well - a hook on a long handle must be attached to the post near the door -straw broom on a long handle - ladder 3 meters long The street door should never have been locked so that, in the event of a fire, any passerby could intervene.
Establishment of the Kotoriba DVD
The voluntary fire brigade in Kotoriba was founded on the initiative of Jakob Hiršler (owner of the sawmill) and local craftsmen and traders, with the basic goal of protecting their property from fire. It was October 31, 1888. Of the personal equipment, firefighters wore only caps, and the Society owned hand syringes and tubes. The storehouse was located in the barn of the economic count's building, opposite the present fire station. With the funds of the municipality and J. Hirschler, two hand syringes were procured, one that pumped water from the well into the tank of the other syringe, which pumped that water to the building affected by the fire. After World War II, the DVD did not exist in Kotoriba. Then Ignac Golubić received an order to gather the former firefighters, for the purpose of re-establishing the DVD. Their first concern was to popularize society, to equip equipment for work, and to procure uniforms for all members.
Fire brass music
A few years after the founding of the DVD, the first 15-member brass band was formed. This brass band of firefighters was the bearer of cultural and entertainment life in the village. There were no performances or ceremonies, such as weddings, dances, funerals, farewells of soldiers, without their participation. Unfortunately, brass music was often used for political purposes and this led to disagreement between members. More and more of them gave up playing, and some were called to arms during the First World War. The renewal of brass music took place in 1924, when the gathered men were willing to learn to play in "tin music". They often played marches through the streets of Kotoriba.
