Osnivanje dobrovoljnog vatrogasnog društva u gradu Bjelovaru izazvalo je pažnju građanstva, koje je ovu ideju primilo sa zadovoljstvom. Gradski odbor na svojoj sjednici 5. veljače 1873. godine zaključio je da se društvo osnuje, izabrao osnivački odbor koji je dobio zadatak da sazove osnivačku skupštinu i napiše pravila društva. Sjednica osnivačke skupštine održana je 10. svibnja 1873. godine. Bilo je prisutno 66 članova osnivača. Nakon što su prihvaćena pravila društva, koja su preko gradskog zastupstva potvrđena od Kraljevske zemaljske vlade, izabrano je rukovodstvo: predsjednik, podpredsjednik, porovođa, kapetan, podkapetan, pobočnik, blagajnik. Tako je Bjelovar među prvima u Hrvatskoj imao Dobrovoljno vatrogasno društvo. Nakon, što je osnovano, DVD već u jesen iste godine učestvovalo je u gašenju dva veća požara.Prvi je bio 18. rujna 1873. godine u gradu, a drugi 13. listopada 1873. u Velikim Sredicama. Tijekom godina mijenjali su se zapovjednici, a na sjednicama su se provodile mnoge obveze i osnivale nove aktivnosti, kao npr.: uvedena funkcija nadzornika vatrogasnih spremišta, utemeljena zakladna blagajna za bolesne vatrogasce i za slučaj njihove smrti, odluka o nabavci društvenog barjaka i izabrana “kuma kod posvete barjaka”. Na krasnoj crvenoj svili uvezen je s jedne strane gradski grb, s druge strane grb vatrogasnog društva, a na krasnoj bijeloj po kumi darovanoj vrpci uvezeno je zlatom po kumi odabrano geslo barjaka “Stieg Vam sloge budi, na rad Vas probudi”, zatim ime kume i dan 5. lipnja 1881. godine. S obje strane barjaka na uglovima uvezen je grb kraljevine Hrvatske. Barjak je obrubljen plavim i bijelim bojama. Ovaj barjak bio je od svih vatrogasnih zborova najvećim oduševljenjem i ushićenjem pozdravljen radi svoga izvanredno ukusnog oblika, te narodnog i gradskog značaja…” U početku financiranje se obavljalo iz četiri izvora. Prvi je bio općina, drugi izvor bila su sredstva od javnih zabava i tzv. vatrogasnih plesova, treći izvor bili su razni darovi i pokloni građana. I četvrti izvor činili su svi ostali prihodi, kao npr. članarine (koju su plaćali podupirajući članovi) i sl. Tijekom svih godina bjelovarsko dobrovoljno vatrogasno društvo je uspješno svladavalo sve postavljene zadatke (spašavanje života i imovine, usavršavanje ljudstva u svladavanju zadataka, nabavljanje opreme, itd…). Od 1. veljače 1960. godine u Bjelovaru počelo je stvaranje profesionalne vatrogasne jezgre. Već iste godine otvorena su četiri profesionalna radna mjesta: zapovjednik, njegov zamjenik i dva vozača. Svake godine njihov broj se povećavao. Odlukom općinske skupštine u Bjelovaru, od 1. listopada 1964. godine osnovana je Profesionalna vatrogasna jedinica s, u toj godini, 32 zaposlena.Od nje će novom odlukom Skupštine općine od 13. travnja 1979. godine nastati Općinski centar za zaštitu od požara. S obzirom na tadašnje uvjete rada vatrogasne organizacije u starom poslovnom prostoru, vatrogasnom domu na Matoševom trgu u Bjelovaru, koji je bio premalen i neprikladan za suvremene potrebe, stvorena je inicijativa za izgradnju novog poslovnog prostora koji bi zadovoljavao potrebe suvremenog vatrogastva.Objekt je bio dovršen i otvoren 7. lipnja 1980. godine gdje se i danas nalaze vatrogasne organizacije grada Bjelovara i županije..... read more: JVP Bjelovar
The establishment of a voluntary fire brigade in the city of Bjelovar attracted the attention of the citizens, who received this idea with pleasure. The City Board, at its session on February 5, 1873, decided that the society should be founded, elected a founding committee which was given the task of convening the founding assembly and writing the rules of the society. The session of the founding assembly was held on May 10, 1873. 66 founding members were present. After the rules of the society were accepted, which were confirmed by the Royal Provincial Government through the city council, the leadership was elected: president, vice-president, leader, captain, sub-captain, aide, treasurer. Thus, Bjelovar was among the first in Croatia to have a Voluntary Fire Brigade. After it was founded, the DVD took part in extinguishing two major fires in the autumn of the same year. The first was on September 18, 1873 in the city, and the second on October 13, 1873 in Veliki Sredice. Over the years, commanders have changed, and many obligations and new activities have been implemented at the sessions, such as: the introduction of the function of fire station supervisor, the establishment of a fund for sick firefighters and in case of their death, godmother at the dedication of the flag ”. The fourth source was all other income, such as membership fees (paid by supporting members) and the like. During all these years, the Bjelovar Voluntary Fire Brigade has successfully mastered all the set tasks (saving lives and property, training people in mastering tasks, procuring equipment, etc.). On February 1, 1960, the creation of a professional fire brigade began in Bjelovar. Already in the same year, four professional jobs were created: the commander, his deputy and two drivers. Their number increased every year. By the decision of the Municipal Assembly in Bjelovar, on October 1, 1964, the Professional Fire Brigade was established with, in that year, 32 employees. Considering the then working conditions of the fire organization in the old business premises, the fire station on Matošev trg in Bjelovar, which was too small and unsuitable for modern needs, an initiative was created to build a new business premises that would meet the needs of modern firefighting. and opened on June 7, 1980, where the fire organizations of the city of Bjelovar and the county are still located today.
