DVD PREZID 2

Natural disasters are very common throughout all the times of human existence in this world, so it is human that defense, help and rescue from natural disasters have been thought about since long ago, and in the Presidency way back in 1886. At that time, prominent people in the Prezid, such as Ščitomir Vilhar, Ferdo Varlaj, Anton Švigel, Rade Vlašić and Josip Klepac, met and founded the Voluntary Fire Company at the assembly on May 21, 1886. It was in Antun Žagar's house, Prezid 13, where the Rules were drawn up, which were then confirmed by the Royal Croatian-Slavonian-Dalmatian Land Government, Department of Internal Affairs in Zagreb on September 4 of the same year. The goal of establishing the Society was to protect the lives and property of the inhabitants of Prezid and the surrounding area from fire and professional development through various professional papers. At the very beginning, the society was strengthened by the municipal notary Mirko Hipšer with his organizational skills. At the same time, new equipment was purchased, first a small two-wheeled sprayer, then a larger four-wheeled one, and in 1895 a large four-wheeled sprayer and other equipment were acquired. Firefighters in Prezid were not spared even the First World War, in which they participated en masse. On December 27, the first post-war session is convened and the Society starts working again. On September 5, 1931, there was a fire at the house of Mate Antončić, which the firemen tried to save, but due to the wind, the fire also affected the houses of Josip Klepec and Cvarava's house. The bell is ringing - the siren at the sawmill is calling. Firefighters from Babno Polje and Loška Dolin, Pudob and Stari Trg are also coming. It was the biggest fire in Prezid until 1931. With the arrival of the unforgettable teacher Slavko Matajić in this area, Prezid flourished in many activities, including firefighting. Many years before World War II, teacher Matajić was a commander. Vjekoslav Matajić organizes cultural activities in the Prezid and founds a tambourine. In addition to the Prezid Fire Association, during his lifetime the Presidents and firefighters paid him great respect. At his wish, he was honorably buried at the local cemetery in Prezid. The Memorial, which was summarized by the teacher Matajić in 1940, is properly managed. In the Memorial, it is mentioned that funds were gradually obtained from the purchase of a two-wheeled sprayer and then a four-wheeled one, the purchase of ladders, roofers and cranes, sprayer helmets, sprayer belts, climbing helmets, various uniforms and equipment, for which contributions were made by both the authorities and individuals from Prezid. A wooden shed was also built as a storage room. The current Fire Station was built and opened as part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of DVD Prezid in 1936. Throughout history, firefighters from Prezid cooperated with neighboring Slovenian firefighters from Babno Polje and together extinguished fires in these areas. On February 14, 1937, the fire department library was founded. In 1938, the Society founded its own music and choir, numerous courses were organized and holidays were celebrated with vigils.
