Prvi začeci vatrogasne službe u Veloj Luci mogu se nazrijeti 1947. godine. Osnivačka skupština DVD-a Vela Luka održana je 14. travnja 1951. i od tada kontinuirano djeluje na okupljanju i uvježbavanju dobrovoljaca u borbi protiv požara. 1985. godina će ostati zapamćena po katastrofalnom požaru koji je odnio četiri ljudska života. Od tada se potpuno reformirao način rada. Uvedeno je dežurstvo za brze intervencije, danonoćno nadgledanje na Motrilačkoj postaji Hum, patroliranje i kontrola, kao i danonoćna dežurna služba u Vatrogasnom domu.

The first beginnings of the fire service in Vela Luka can be seen in 1947. The founding assembly of DVD Vela Luka was held on April 14, 1951, and since then it has been continuously working on gathering and training volunteers in the fight against fires. The year 1985 will be remembered for the catastrophic fire that took four lives. Since then, the way of working has been completely reformed.
